How to clean and disinfect your instrument! We've had a few enquiries from customers lately asking how they can clean and disinfect their instrument during the COVID-19 outbreak. In this video, Hannah shows you how. We usually NEVER recommend using spirit-based cleaners, such as methylated spirits, on an instrument. Spirit-based cleaners can cause permanent damage to the varnish. However, when it is so important to keep surfaces clean to minimise any spread, we recommend using alcohol wipes on SOME parts of your instrument to ensure it is properly cleaned and disinfected. Only use alcohol wipes on the chinrest, strings, fingerboard, tailpiece, fine tuners and pegs. These parts are usually made from a timber or plastic, and do not have varnish on them. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL WIPES OR SPIRIT BASED CLEANERS ON THE BODY OF YOUR INSTRUMENT! Especially avoid any liquid spirit-based cleaners, as they can drip onto your instrument, causing damage to the varnish! This kind of cleaning and disinfecting should only be done every 1-2 weeks.
